Rimrocker Trail "Missing Link" Application Receives Nearly $200,000 Grant

Montrose, COLO.— Montrose County has taken another major step towards completion of the “missing link” of the popular Rimrocker Trail between Montrose County and Moab, Utah. Currently, 158.6 miles of the 160-mile route are legal for off-highway vehicle (OHV) use. The “Missing Link” project will build an OHV frontage trail along State Highway 141 in the Dolores River Canyon to allow for OHV use across the highway. Chairman of the Board Keith Caddy and Government Affairs Director Jon Waschbusch traveled to Denver in March to present the project to the Colorado Parks and Wildlife grant committee. The Montrose County proposal was one of 42 applications seeking funding in this grant cycle. This project received the highest score of all applications statewide and was awarded $194,657.

"This is a win for Montrose County," said Commissioner Glen Davis, who was a key contributor to the creation of the Rimrocker Trail. "These grant dollars are essential to creating OHV trails on the western slope. The Rimrocker Trail has continued to gain popularity since its inception and I expect that traffic to continue to grow."

“We’ve had a lot of support in getting to this point.” said Government Affairs Director Jon Waschbusch. “This grant would not have been possible without the cooperation of Colorado Parks and Wildlife, Colorado Department of Transportation, Bureau of Land Management Uncompahgre Field Office and Colorado Department of Local Affairs. Our community has had a series of projects gain statewide recognition and support. I’m glad we’re able to keep that streak going.”

At this time, construction is expected to take place in late summer of 2019. For more information about the Rimrocker Trail, please visit rimrockertrail.org.
